Tell us What’s Your Hustle: What in the World is Seamoss?

Brown Rice Quinoa with cucumber and jalapenos Pepper, Shrimps in Seamoss gravy

This recipe is packed with wholesome ingredients full of nutrients. Its an easy way to get your essentials, cooked in mouthwatering flavors.

Our guest Coach Cee explained that, Irish Seamoss (Chondrus crispus) is algae harvested from sea rocks, where it absorbs minerals and nutrients. Once is collected, Seamoss is dried out and sent to processing for gels, capsules, gummies or topical use products.

In the kitchen, the least processes the better. Use sea moss in low temperature to keep nutrients intact. Seamoss is also a natural thickener for sauces and gravies. It can also be used in smoothies, juices, hot tea, coffee. If it’s not overcooked, you can add to your favorite recipes and enjoy the immense benefits of the 92 essential minerals in Seamoss.

Experts like register dietician Beth Czerwony, RD, reports that, although sea moss’s anti-inflammatory, and cholesterol lowering benefits have been found to lower the risk of condition like diabetes, and heart disease, more specific studies are needed to detail its superfood attributes. Seaweeds are packed with fiber, making Seamoss an ideal ingredient to add fiber, aiding weight loss efforts by feeling full for longer periods, and supporting gut health with good bacteria, shared Czerwony.

Iodine is another benefit found in Seamoss, and iodine is essential for thyroid health. The human body does not create iodine on its own, so it needs to be added through ingredients like seafood, iodized salt, and some dairy products. Too low iodine or too much can trigger serious thyroid issues. It is wise to consult with a medical professional before adding iodine supplements.

Seamoss earns a “Superfood” stamp, for its immune boosting nutrients like calcium, phosphates, and selenium, and magnesium the “ultimate conductor”. Coach Cheryl, founder of Iceefitness.com, shared valuable content about Magnesium. “I call myself the Queen of Magnesium”, she declared. “Magnesium impacts muscle function by supporting contraction and heart rhythm. Its also responsible for metabolizing energy, bone development, synthetizing antioxidants, protein, and DNA. Magnesium it’s also critical for calcium and potassium transportation. The benefit of Magnesium is one of Seamoss nutrients I love the most.

As the seaweed of the moment, Seamoss awareness continues to spread among health foodies, for all its nutritional benefits. Studies and testimonies among experts and user continue to record its benefits. The FDA has not yet evaluated Seamoss or its by products and supplements, and more studies are needed to continue to prove its benefits and superfood value.
